LET DOWN

From the inception of 308 Studios, a film set in New York City has been something we’ve been eager to take on. As we brainstormed potential storylines, we became interested in a character trapped between two unremarkable relationships and reflecting that feeling of entrapment in her surroundings. In the film, Lia finds herself stuck between a relationship with an oblivious performative male and an affair with the over-eager Jay. When she becomes stuck on the roof of her apartment with Jay, it’s only a matter of time until her boyfriend Ronan returns, threatening to discover her infidelity.

The inclusion of NYC legend Douglas Levison as Artie, the eavesdropping neighbor, was a natural fit. Doug’s presence set the tone for the film: eccentric humor and that uniquely New York sense that just about anything can happen. This spontaneity allowed us to explore the peculiar dynamics of Gen Z relationships, which can at times appear meaningless and cosmically cruel. However, as Let Down suggests, these seemingly arbitrary events are not the flippant will of the universe but the cumulative result of the small and large decisions made by the people all around us.
